Showcases
Below are four items which best reflect my skills and development as an effective communicator.

Showcase 1: Cover Letter Assignment

I chose this cover letter piece because it represents the initial steps of self-describing written communication. It speaks to and emphasises on the criticalness of tailoring one's own skills and experiences, through descriptive forms of communication, to the job position; this fact also contributed.
This piece added to my ability to communicate by showing the importance in explaining to the employer or client why my own skills are sufficient for the specific task required. How they can generally be seen as not connected but if analyzed intrinsically, each skill learned affords new techniques applied. Learning the foundations of writing a cover letter did push my comfort zone since, regardless of previous job postings and requirements, I never wrote or saw the importance of a cover letter. However, learning more about a cover letter’s initial purpose and requirements of clarity as to who one is, void of the statistical nature of a resume, truly presents insight to the employer and to one’s own abilities.

This piece is not my best work. Given that there was a limited number of topics to choose to create my faux cover letter, I had to find and apply myself to a “job posting” that I was not entirely interested in. In the real world I would be applying, and therefore writing cover letters, to companies or job postings that relate more closely if not identically to my interests. This would make the ease of personal expression and connection of my cover letter more relatable and genuine to the reader.
